BACHELOR’S/MASTER'S DEGREE IN LAW

Bachelor’s degree in law

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES / LEARNING OUTCOMES 

Knowledge and understanding:

  • thorough knowledge of legal concepts, categories, laws and causal relationships existing within the system of social relations;
  • knowledge of the genesis and development of national and international law, legal institutions, separate legal systems and traditions, political and legal teachings.
  • knowledge of the system of law and legislation, mechanisms of legal regulation in different areas of law in Ukraine and world countries, as well as  the awareness of the state of legal practices in Ukraine and abroad;
  • knowledge of the methods and mechanisms of harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with European Union law;
  • conceptual knowledge of philosophy, logic, cross-cultural communications, history of Ukrainian and world culture, psychology and pedagogy, sociology, political science, political economy, all contributing to the development of general culture and socialization of personality;
  • knowledge of the value-based framework of law and jurisprudence, the awareness of the key rules and professional ethical conduct of a lawyer, insights into  the theory of democracy and the Rule of law principles, natural and inalienable rights and freedoms of man and of the citizen;
  • knowledge of the of record keeping basics;
  • knowledge of at least one foreign language.

Application of knowledge and understanding:

  • the ability to deliver legal support and resolution of problems and disputes in various fields of social life in the relevant area of law or within a specific legal  institution, as well as to provide impartial, unbiased qualified legal opinion;
  • the skills in effective work with normative regulatory acts, the ability to differentiate the sources of law subject to their legal effect and hierarchy, the ability to analyze, apply, and interpret the normative legal acts and to implement the norms of substantive and procedural law;
  • legal drafting skills, preparation, conclusion and registration of contracts and transactions of various nature, drafting and submission of other official and legal documents in the areas of administrative, criminal, civil, commercial, banking, family, inheritance law areas etc.;
  • skills in registration of a business entity and developing the regulatory documents on its activity;
  • relevant knowledge of procedural areas of law for participation in court proceedings within the administrative, civil, economic or criminal justice;
  • the ability to provide legal qualification of facts and circumstances, as well as the ability to give a correct legal assessment of certain  or cumulative evidence in a legal case and in a particular procedural situation;
  • the ability to draft normative legal acts according to professional activity profiles;
  • the ability to prevent offences, to identify and eliminate the reasons and conditions that cause them;
  • the ability to develop successful business communication: public speaking, negotiations, meetings, business correspondence, electronic communication;
  • project-related presentation skills (written, oral and visualized), in English specifically;
  • the ability to work with information in global computer networks and corporate information systems, applied software and information technologies in legal activity and practice of law.

Making judgments:

  • the adherence to the principles of democracy and the Rule of law on the basis of the developed legal consciousness, legal thinking and legal culture;
  • the willingness to respect honour and dignity of a person, to respect and protect the rights and freedoms of man and of the citizen;
  • the readiness to ensure law and order and security of the person, society and state;
  • understanding of the need for honesty and transparency in various aspects of professional activity in the area of law practice, formation of intolerance to corruption in all its manifestations;
  • taking responsibility for own personal and professional development, as well as of subordinates and/or groups of persons;
  • the ability to apply methods of logical reasoning, analytical, innovative and critical thinking;
  • the formation of motivation for further independent lifelong learning.
